Short Textured Mullet

The Jungle Room: Denny Rik and Styling Powder

A couple of summer boys join forces to create a Short Textured Mullet using Styling Powder

Between his busy schedule of cutting hair at Brisbane’s Bare Bones, working on his beloved bike, and building custom luggage for his side gig, Nolan Supply, Denny Rik is one hard fella to pin down. Barbering’s answer to Ned Flanders eventually responded to our repeated requests to come and cut at the Jungle Room when he found out his beloved Styling Powder could be the product of choice for the day.

Denny invited his mate Duffy along for the tidy-up. With that, a Short Textured Mullet was the cut of choice. With the Aussie summer heat rolling in, losing the bulk and heaviness while adding serious texture to the overall cut was the perfect option.

Grilling Denny on why he’s so hot for this particular product, he responded with the following:

Styling Powder is just great at adding texture and volume. It's versatile for all hairstyles, from short crops to longer, looser styles. It goes in really easily and washes out just as effortlessly. We’ve been able to explode heaps of texture all over this haircut using just a hairdryer… and then just the Styling Powder. You can do so much with Styling Powder—just keep moving it through your haircut, and your customer can rework the hair throughout the entire day.”

Now, how can you top that answer?!?

How to style a Short Textured Mullet

Founder Steve Purcell says there are two things to know to get a great textured look for your hair:

A barber who knows how to enhance texture by point cutting, using a feather razor, and walking the line with thinning shears.

Let the product do the work (Styling Powder)! There are no rules for making your hair look messy—using dry hands and dry hair, just apply a good amount of Styling Powder and let the Textured Mullet pop!

What is Styling Powder?

Uppercut Deluxe’s hair Styling Powder is crafted with modern hairstyles in mind. Easy to use, just ‘shake and rake’ for effortless styling without the fuss of traditional wax or pomade.

Simply sprinkle powder onto the roots of your hair to add volume, and use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to ‘rake’ the powder through, adding texture to build your hairstyle. Hair powder is great because it adds volume with flexible control. Build up layers of powder one by one so it never gets out of hand.
