Uppercut Deluxe Pop Up Barbershop at Wavelength's Drive In Cinema

On the 15th of August 2020, we made our way down to Watergate Bay on the UK’s South Coast. We were lucky enough to set up a pop-up Barbershop at the Wavelength Magazine's Drive-In Cinema, offering free haircuts to the punters that made the trip.

Wavelength Magazine is the leading UK surf publication and has been printed for 40 years running, covering surf and lifestyle from across the globe.

The UK surf community has been growing over the past few years, with more and more people making their way down the coast to experience some of the best waves the UK has to offer.

The community turned out in style for the Drive-In Cinema, with over 250 cars a night rolling in for the socially distant event.

With some classic films like Point Break, Endless Summer, and local favorite Fishermans Friends on offer it was hard not to enjoy yourself. If the movies weren't your cup of tea, there was still plenty to do with the weather turning on an epic ocean backdrop making a picturesque scene, which was a nice break from the COVID nightmare!

We took over a container to create a pop-up barbershop and recruited a few local legends to offer up free haircuts.

@tom_cliquebarber, @charlievenn_barber & @jeastwood each took a turn at owning the space for a day, stepping behind the chair. Kitted out with full COVID safe PPE we brought the barbershop to the coastline, with the guys churning out nearly 100 cuts throughout the course of the weekend.

The newly released Salt Spray proved a popular option amongst the long-haired locals and tourists alike, with long and loose throwbacks proving to be the most popular style of the weekend.

Watch this space as we plan more rad events with the guys at Wavelength!
