Catching Up with Charlie Venn

Uppercut Deluxe Collective Member - @charlievenn_barber . Charlie hails from Weston-Super-Mare in the UK.

If you haven’t heard of Charlie, we'd seriously suggest checking him out. He’s a mad dude who also happens to be a high-quality barber with style for days.

Charlie's Shop @LuckySevensBarbershop is a staple of the community. Drawing inspiration from the traditional barbershop with a modern influence. This vibe combined with some influence from Charlies’ love for classic bikes and street skate gives the shop a unique identity.

We caught up with Charlie for a chat on how things are post lockdown, how Lucky Sevens came to be, and what’s next.

Catching up with Charlie Venn Barber

Thanks for taking the time to chat dude, I understand since lockdown eased at the start of July you’ve probably been slammed!

Yeah man, we had a crazy few weeks with everyone chasing a clean-up after months of going without. Things are starting to return to normal now, hopefully, they stay that way!

So tell us a bit about Lucky Sevens and the man behind the Chair. How did you start barbering?

Well, I work and live in my hometown Weston-Super-Mare. I guess I finished school and tried every occupation under the sun. I ended up falling into barber college around 7 years ago now and I’ve been cutting hair ever since with no plans of stopping any time soon!

I worked in a couple of shops around town and when I was ready I left to start my own shop.

That’s when you started Lucky Sevens? How did that happen?

I was working at Smart Barbers in town with a great bunch of guys but I was ready for my own shop so I found the space and got work making my vision a reality.

In fact, the space Lucky Sevens is in used to be the barber college I first started at, so I’m actually cutting today in the same spot I first picked up the clippers nearly 7 years ago! I’ve gone full circle!

That’s mad! So why Barbering?

I love the creative nature of the job, every 30 minutes you can be doing a completely different cut on a different person. You meet a real diverse group of people in the chair making for a different conversation with every customer.

So what’s next for Charlie Venn & Lucky Sevens?

Good question.. I’m always working to be the best barber I can be, working and learning to take my barbering to the next level. At the end of the day I just want to keep cutting hair and having fun!

Too true mate, can’t take things too seriously! Thanks for chatting bro.

No worries man!
